Tattoos and Piercings Rant

oh god! I was a freak!
This is probably one of the biggest topics in my life, because I am a fan of body modifications and body art. I think it's fascinating, and most look fantastic when done professionally. It takes a lot to make me say that body modification or body art is too much. It's starting to be worked into the main stream, and worked into work places. This is where things start to tick me off. I once had a labret piercing after my 18th birthday. I was told during an interview I was not allowed to wear it during work, even though our manager was allowed. After I had gotten hired, my manager told me I could keep it, and if I had any other facial piercings. Which is acceptable, if one person in the work place has, others should have as well. But, that doesn't fly in most "high end" jobs, or jobs where you're actually seen by people. Oh no! We might actually offend someone because they don't like the way we look. Like that has stopped people in the past.

Such beautiful elegant art

I see nothing wrong with facial piercings in the work place, is this just me? I rather see discreet metal pieces, and piercings (that have been practiced for thousands of years) than see a hole where the piercing is. I think that is more disgusting than the metal being inserted. Same thing with visible tattoos, being made to cover them. That is total bullshit. They're great conversation starters, and it's art.

Here is a story, my one friend has started to get facial piercings, and people were freaking out over it. And I tried to defend him, telling him that he looked great (which he does). I'll share the gist of the comments left upon his photo. Saying he looked unintelligent, that he looked scary, that if he were to keep them in he would basically never amount to anything, etc. Keep in mind, he just turned 18, they're treating him like he's a 30 year old with a family and needs to pay the bills. It was really ridiculous and really pissed me off. People thinking that others are unintelligent, or are acting stupid because they like something enough to do it to their bodies. I can see telling someone their being unreasonable if they get over 30 piercings on their face. But, one or two? Really? Screw those people.

People need to learn that others are going to do what they want to, and eventually push the main stream hard enough that facial piercings and tattoos will be accepted into the work place. It's already started to happen, believe me. I have seen it in my work place. As long as others don't over do it by gaging their noses, or lips; and do not go too excessive on gaging their ears it should be acceptable. I mean, I have seen business women with their ears pierced over and over again, yet, people aren't allowed to have a nose piercing, or a lip piercing? That seems a little unfair.

THIS. Is excessive.

But, back to what I said earlier, there's not much that will make me be against body mods and tattoos. I've seen pictures of people that have loads of facial piercings, where I think they would be afraid to go anywhere near magnets with the fear of having the lower part of their face ripped off. Then, there are the "I gage EVERYTHING" people. And of course, the people who get excessive facial tattoos (i.e. skeleton face men).

Going to be my new addition~

OW!! These suckers HURT.
Maybe, you, my readers can give insight on why tattoos and piercings are so looked down upon, still in this era. Why they're not allowed in the work place? Would you still wear your piercings to work, or not cover up your tattoos like many people have to show protest? Or maybe explain to me why some people are such jackasses they call people stupid for getting them. If you have any stories of discrimination against you for your choices, please share!

Thank you for reading!!!

  1. 1. Navel piercing
    2. Upper ear, and 2 lobe piercings
    3. 2 tattoos
    4. I have to remove my piercings and make sure my tattoos are covered (to an extent) because of my job. I am a U.S. Marine, and we cover to make it seem professional. We are allowed to have tattoos that are outside of our "PT gear" if they are within the size of our palm.
